Why Tanzania

Few places pack this much variety into one trip. The northern circuit delivers big horizons and efficient logistics; the south trades crowds for river safaris and long, empty views. A large share of the country is conserved through parks and reserves—wildlife areas alone cover about 28%, and some estimates place total protected land closer to 38%—one reason wildlife viewing stays strong year-round.

Where to go (by circuit)

Northern Circuit

  • Serengeti National Park

Classic savannah, year-round game; the Great Migration is one of the world’s great natural events.

  • Ngorongoro Conservation Area

An ancient caldera with concentrated wildlife and a chance—never promised—to see black rhino.

  • Tarangire National Park

Elephants among immense baobabs; a quieter, golden-light park that shines in the dry season.

Southern Circuit

  • Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous)

River safaris on the Rufiji, guided walking, and broad, uncrowded wilderness.

  • Ruaha National Park

Vast, wild country with excellent predator viewing and outstanding birding, including many raptors.

Western

  • Mahale Mountains

Chimp tracking on forested slopes above Lake Tanganyika; raw, beautiful, and remote.

  • Katavi

Remote, raw savannah with big herds late in the dry season and dramatic river pools filled with hippos.

Best time to visit (month cues)

Seasons shape the experience. Use this quick guide to match your dates with what you want to see—then we’ll fine-tune around local conditions. Exact timing can shift with rainfall patterns. Tell us your dates and we’ll place you in the right area.

Jan–Feb
Calving in southern Serengeti/Ndutu; dramatic predator action.
Mar
Green, fewer visitors; rain possible.
Apr–May
Long rains; some camps close — still lovely in select areas.
Jun–Oct
Dry season across Tanzania; prime general game viewing.
Jul–Oct
Northern Serengeti river crossings (timing varies with rain).
Nov–Dec
Short rains; beautiful skies and lower crowds.

Planning around the seasons is key—share your dates and wish list, and we’ll advise on the best regions for that time.

How we work (4 steps)

Listen → Shape → Refine → Confirm. We map each day around light, wildlife movement, and your pace. Private vehicle as standard. When flying saves hours, we fly.

FAQs

Short, honest answers to the questions we’re asked most. If you don’t see yours here, just ask.

How much does a Tanzania safari cost?
Season, lodge tier, and private vs shared vehicles drive price. We quote clearly with no surprises.
When is best for the Great Migration?
Dry season is June–October overall; river crossings typically July–October up north. Calving is most reliable January–February in the south.
How many days should I plan?
Seven to ten nights hits a natural rhythm. Add Zanzibar for a gentler landing before you fly home.
North vs south—what’s right for me?
North = iconic, efficient, lots of variety. South = quieter, river and walking options, more space between sightings.
Is a Tanzania safari good for families?
Yes—shorter drive windows, adjoining tents, kid-friendly guides, and plenty of pool breaks make it work well.
Do I need vaccines or yellow fever proof?
Requirements change. As of now: if you travel direct from non–yellow fever risk countries (e.g., the U.S./UK), a yellow fever certificate isn’t required. If you arrive from—or transit for 12+ hours through—a country with yellow fever risk, you must show a valid vaccination certificate. We’ll share the latest official guidance before you travel.

Always consult your clinician for personal vaccine advice (e.g., Hep A, Typhoid, etc.).
